The Story Behind the Photo: Ventura Pier

The Story behind the photo:

Hello, my name is David and I am a library tech at E.P. Foster Library and amateur photographer. I photograph interesting places in Ventura County in B/W.

My first inspiration for this project was the wonderful local history collection available at E.P. Foster Library. We have books, journals, microfilm, and online resources.

My goal is to photograph the ever-changing landscapes and cityscapes of Ventura County. I hope you enjoy this series.

The first photo is the Ventura Pier. Opened 1872, it has been used for commercial and recreational purposes; fishing, strolling along the pier, and dining at the many restaurants are some of the activities enjoyed here.

I photographed the pier on a wonderful day with a clear view of the Channel Islands. The detail of the Channel Islands is quite sharp. The pier is just one of many photogenic landmarks in Ventura County.

For those of you that would like to learn more about the history of Ventura County I recommend: Ventura County Looking Back: A Photographic History of Ventura County: The Early Years, By Don Scott
