Last week, I joined nearly 600 athletes from around Ventura County to compete in the Corporate Games 5K. The 3.1 mile race was held at the Ventura Aquatic Center on a breezy Wednesday afternoon. There’s nothing quite as lovely as running whilst the sun sets.

This was my first 5K since taking a break from running avidly roughly five years ago. Birds joined the runners with their songs, friends and family cheered us on, and we feasted on bananas and mandarin oranges after we crossed the finish line. It felt great to be back!

The experience got me wondering about the resources for runners at E.P. Foster Library. As it turns out, we have a collection of running books that cover everything from beginning training to injury prevention. Here’s some selected titles:

Frank Shorter’s Running for Health, Fitness and Peak Performance

The Cool Impossible: The Running Coach from Born to Run Shows How to Get the Most from your Miles and from Yourself

Kara Goucher’s Running for Women

Hal Higdon’s Smart Running: Expert Advice on Training, Motivation, Injury Prevention, Nutrition, and Good Health

Runner’s World Complete Book of Running
