Check Out
- Materials checkout for 3 weeks, unless otherwise noted.
- You must have a library card to check out materials. Learn more about getting a Ventura County Library Card.
- Research materials, magazines, newspapers, and government documents can be used in-person; most cannot be checked out.
- Parents or guardians are financially responsible for items checked out on cards of their children 17 years of age or younger.
Renewals
- Items requested by another customer cannot be renewed and must be returned.
- Most unrequested items may be renewed a maximum of three times. Each renewal is for a three-week period.
- Library items will be automatically renewed a maximum of two times on their due dates as long as no holds have been placed on them.
- Customers may chose to manually renew items one more time for a total of three renewals maximum.
- Items may be renewed through the Ventura County Library online catalog, the MyVCLibrary app, or by phone (805) 626-READ. A library card number and library PIN are required.
- What's a library PIN? The last 4 digits of your phone number at the time you registered for your library card were used as the PIN, unless you specified another set of numbers. If you do not know your PIN, please call or visit the library.
- Some items do not renew, such as short-term loan reference items and some Library of Things kits.

Returns
- Most library materials may be returned to any Ventura County Library location and/or its after-hours book drop.
- Library of Things items must be returned in-person at the public service desk during open hours.
- Some locations prefer audiobooks on CD and DVDs be returned to the public service desk during open hours; please check with your local branch.
