The Story Behind the Photo: Ventura River Parkway Trail

Submitted by Fun at Foster on

Hello again my name is David and I am a Library Tech at E.P. Foster Library and amateur photographer.

This is the story behind the photo.

This is a photo of a multiuse bridge on the "Ventura River Parkway Trail”, it accommodates pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. It's located at the halfway point between Ojai and Downtown Ventura.

My preference is to cycle to the bridge, cross it, then walk down to the river and look for turtles sunning themselves or swimming in the river.

I've been curious about what type of turtles inhabit this area, a book was recommended to me by another turtle admirer, the title is, "Field guide to amphibians and reptiles of California",  by Robert C. Stebbins. I will check the book out as soon as it's possible.

A children's book I highly recommend that has a turtle and a feline cyclist in it is, "Go, Pete, Go!", by James Dean, lovely story.

After crossing the bridge then visiting the turtles it's a nice downhill ride home with lots of beautiful views of wildflowers, green hills, and even some rabbits to keep things interesting.

I hope you have an opportunity to explore this wonderful part of Ventura County. Thank you and keep reading.
