Ojai local Mandy Jackson-Beverly will visit the Ojai Library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, to present a special lecture titled “Getting Your Book Published in the Modern World.”

Join Mandy Jackson-Beverly as she explains the differences between independent, traditional, and hybrid publishing; the pros and cons of each path; social media for authors; and her life as an Indie Author/Publisher. Just as the invention of the printing press allowed a wider audience to expand their knowledge by reading, so has the introduction of eBooks and audiobooks in this century. Writers and readers are no longer bound to the constrictions of traditional publishing.

Mandy Jackson-Beverly was born in Pyramid Hill, Victoria, Australia—population 419—and grew up around the rugged coastline and rolling hills of Tasmania. Upon moving to England, she discovered the tantalizing London fashion scene and fell in love with the concept of the creative collective. Later in Los Angeles, she found her own creative freedom among the thriving, no-holds-barred visionaries of the music video world.

Mandy has worked as a costume designer and stylist for an amazing array of creative dynamos including photographer Herb Ritts; directors Joel and Ethan Coen, David Fincher, and Julien Temple; and music icons David Bowie, Madonna, and Tina Turner. She taught art and theater in high schools, contributed blogs to The Huffington Post, is a book reviewer for The New York Journal of Books, and is on the board of directors for the Small Publishers, Artists & Writers Network (SPAWN). These days she lives with her family in Ojai, California, and spins stories for her readers’ pleasure as well as her own.

When Mandy’s not writing or reading (she has a fascination with Jung), she’s cooking, painting, dancing, or on walkabout—preferably in Italy. You can find her via her website at www.mandyjacksonbeverly.com.

This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146.
