• We recommend MP3 players with bookmark capability. Many audiobooks are downloaded as a single track, and bookmarks help you find your place, just as in a book. Otherwise, if you navigate away from the audiobook without setting a bookmark, when you return to the audiobook, you will go back to the beginning of the recording.
• Downloading audiobooks requires Windows Media Player 9 or higher.
• For best results, turn off pop-up blockers while downloading.
• Because of bandwidth and other technical issues, audiobooks may not be downloaded on VCL computers.

The software you download will depend on your preferences and device. For example, after creating an account you will be invited to choose whether or not to use the OneClickdigital Media Manager as your default player.
This is the preferred method and it allows for the easiest download experience.
Mac users or users that wish to download manually should select “no”.

You need to download the following free software:

• Windows Media Player available at Microsoft.com
• OverDrive Media Console version 1.0 (or later), available on the OverDrive site: click on “Quick Start Guide” (under “Getting Started”) and follow the steps to download the software

• Create an account in OneClickdigital - including your library card number. You may assign yourself a username and password
• Notice there are several search options; you may browse by tabs (page center) or genre (Quick Search in the upper right)
• Mousing over the covers will bring up an information box - clicking on the title will give you a detailed information page. You may checkout or place a hold in both places if the book is available
•  Under "My Collections" you can see what items are checked out, when they are due and what holds you have pending
•  If you use the OneClickdigital Media Manager (recommended), it will automatically open when you click on "Download Now"

• Perform a search and select a book by clicking on the title.
• Under “Format Information,” available titles will show an “add to cart” link while titles already checked out will show a “place a hold” link
• When you are finished selecting, click on the “Proceed to Checkout” link. For help, see “Check Out Assistance”
• You will need to enter your VCL card barcode and confirm your checkout to reach the download page
• Your download will activate the OverDrive player, which will give you options to download the eaudiobook in part or in total

• The checkout period for audiobooks from OneClickdigital is from 1 to 21 days - you choose the length of time
• You can return items early through the OneClickdigital Media Manager
• You may login again to re-check it out (or be place it on the hold/request if someone else has requested it)
• There are no fines attached to your audiobook downloads. DRM (Digital Rights Management) software built in to the recording expires at the end of the checkout period, causing the audiobook to be inaccessible
• You are allowed a maximum of 5 items checked out at once
• Holds & Requests
  • You're allowed 5 holds at a time
  • Request items are held for 2 days

• The checkout period for audiobooks from OverDrive is 7, 14 or 21 days - you choose
• You are able to login again to re-check it out (or be placed on the hold list if someone else has requested it)
• There are no fines attached to your audiobook downloads. DRM (Digital Rights Management) software built in to the recording expires 7, 14 or 21 days from the date of download, causing the audiobook to be inaccessible
• The audiobook will remain in your OverDrive player in case you want to re-check it out. If not, you will need to remove it from your computer or player manually
• You are allowed a maximum of 5 items checked out at once

  • You're allowed 5 holds at a time
  • Request items are held 4 days

• Yes, if you have finished listening to an audiobook before the expiration date and you would like to return it and check out another title, you may do so from the OneClickdigital Media Manager:
  • Under the Checked Out tab, click on the "Return Now" button under the information for the title in question

• No  - OverDrive audiobooks are not allowed to be early returned due to their licensing agreements with book publishers
  • OverDrive is continuing to work with their publishers to allow this feature in the future
  • Get the most up-to-date answer *here* from OverDrive

There are two places you can check to see if a title may be burned to CD:

• The OverDrive website - look under "Digital Rights Information" for the specific title
• If you have already checked out the title, you can look in OverDrive Media Console. Highlight the desired title and click the "Properties" button. If a 'License' tab is not displayed, the title is not digitally protected and can be burned to CD
