Services
- Want to know how to get a library card and borrow
a book? Find out here.
- Follow this link to learn how
to access the library catalog from home.
- If a book you want is not available at your local
library, it can be be ordered from other libraries.
- Telephone questions will be answered during open
hours. Call (805) 486-5460.
- Eight computers are available for public Internet
use. Computers are filtered for use by customers under 18.
- One self-serve copy machines is available. Copies
are ten cents each.
- One word processor and one coin-operated typewriter
are available.
- One microfiche reader/printer and one microfilm
reader/printer are available.
- Prueter Library is a site for the Adult Literacy
Program. Students are matched with volunteer tutors who help them improve
reading, writing and spelling skills. See the Adult Literacy Program
Web site for more information.

- Storytimes for children ages 0-5 are held Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays
and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
- Bilingual storytime for children ages 0-5 is held each Monday at 10:30
a.m.
- "Out and About" provides children ages 0-5 the opportunity to
participate in storytime, get a library card, and check out books at the Port
Hueneme Naval Base on the third Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m.
- "Read Me A Story and More" classes are offered quarterly for parents of
children 0-5. The classes equip participants to have have rich, meaningful,
early childhood learning experiences with their children. Registration is
required. Call the library for a schedule.
- The Rosenbluth Family Homework Center is
open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., when Hueneme School District schools are

- The Library is a recipient of a Port Hueneme/South
Oxnard Neighborhood for Learning grant funded by Prop 10 and First
5 of Ventura County which provides partial funding for library
services to children ages 0-5 and their families.
- Senior Morning - Computing for baby boomers and beyond. Mondays
from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

- Children's Programs
- "We'll Read Club" is a monthly book discussion activity for children
in grades k-1, 2-3 and 4-6. Registration is required. Call the
library for a schedule.
- Teen Advisory Board assists
with planning services for teens. If interested in becoming a member, contact
Sharon Dykstra at 486-5460.
- Adult Mystery Book Discussion Group - Group meets the second Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. Registration
is required.
- Adult Contemporary book Discussion
Group - Group meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m.
Registration is required.
- "Let's Knit Together"
for ages 12 to 112. Each second Tuesday
of the month 4:00-5:30 p.m. Supplies provided if needed. Registration required.
Volunteer Opportunities
- The Friends of the Ray D. Prueter
Library support and benefit the Library. The Friends sponsor used book
sales and special programs. Contact the Library Supervisor for more information
on becoming a member or visit the Friends page.
- Volunteers are needed to shelve, mend and process
books. Call the Library for more information.
- Volunteers are needed for Adult Literacy Program. For more information click here.
- Volunteers are needed for the Rosenbluth Family
Homework Center.
- Teen volunteers are needed for the Teen Advisory
Board.
Collections
- Prueter Library has items
in English and Spanish, including magazines, books on tape and CD, music CDs,
videos and DVDs.
- The Ventura County Star and the Los Angeles
Times and the Wall Street Journal are kept for one year.
